Apple is taking the AirPods and AirPods Pro experience to the next level with the iOS 26 update. In addition to new features like camera remotes and sleep detection, which pauses media playback, significant improvements are also being made to the charging experience. Here are the details.
Low Battery Alert for AirPods
With the new update, your iPhone will automatically remind you when your AirPods are low on battery. These alerts can appear even when your AirPods are not in your ears, meaning they are still in their charging case. This feature will be especially useful for users of the new AirPods Pro 3, whose battery is smaller than the previous generation.
Previously, the iPhone displayed a notification when the battery level was low when you inserted your AirPods or were actively listening to music. However, the biggest new feature in iOS 26 is the notification that you should charge your AirPods even if you haven’t touched them in a while.
In addition to low battery alerts, the iPhone can now notify you when your AirPods are fully charged. This way, you’ll easily know when the battery is low and when you can unplug it.
If you don’t want to receive these notifications, you can turn them off in settings. While your AirPods are connected to your phone, simply go to Settings > AirPods > Battery and turn off “Charging Notifications.”
iOS 26 is now available. After updating your phone, you’ll need to wait for your AirPods to install the new software. While this process can sometimes happen instantly, it can take a few days. Thanks to this new feature, you won’t encounter any surprises when your AirPods run out of battery.
